We've created a department that operates out of our corporate office that deals exclusively with the needs of Contractors. We offer contractor positions, lease-purchase and small fleet programs as well.

CONTRACTORS 

Marten Transport is proud to offer opportunities to those drivers who want to operate their own business as an exclusive contracting partner.

Settlement Package

Our Contractor settlement package has been designed to reward drivers with varying rates based on length of haul. The basic compensation plan is as follows:

• 0-400 miles  --  $.94 per mile

• 401-800  -- $.90

• 801-1,20  --  $.87

• 1,201-1,600  --  $.86

• More than 1,600  --  $.85

• Empty miles  --  $.85

In addition to the miles-weighted compensation plan, Marten provides an unmatched support package for Contractors. Our total Contractor settlement package includes additional value because it includes many other items drivers would otherwise have to pay for themselves. It also includes the leading fuel surcharge program in the industry. Special rates may apply for regional and dedicated positions.

Additional Services Package

Reflects items that make up an equivalent of ten and a half cents per mile. Marten provides these services at no cost to the contractor, bringing the value of the total pay package to 96.1 cents*.

• All license fees, including base plates

• All Tolls & Bridge tolls (except for Chicago Skyway), some designated routing 

• File & pay State fuel & Mileage Tax Returns (except for the 2290)

• Low premiums for medical insurance through True Choices. Open to any Contractor

• Fuel card at Marten Authorized Fuel Stops only. Cards available at all terminals

• Cost plus .04 Terminal fuel

• Free Trip Pak

• Loading and Unloading 

• Drop Pay (excluding first and final drop) $30

• Qualcomm at no charge, with no monthly charge. 

• Fuel surcharge reimbursement

• Rider program

• Direct deposit/weekly settlement

• Open door management policy

• Quarterly safety incentive (call for more information)

• Referral incentive (call for more information)

• Quarterly production incentive program

• Reefer fuel provided by company at no charge

• Cargo liability insurance provided by company at no charge

FLEET OWNERS

Marten's Fleet Owner program offers yet another opportunity for Drivers to succeed. With the continued success of our Contractor program, adding the opportunity to be a Fleet Owner was a natural progression. This program allows drivers the opportunity to purchase another truck or trucks, and hire drivers to expand their own business. Check out the Marten Business Academy for more information.  

LEASE PURCHASE PROGRAM

Drivers who are interested in becoming Contractors but don't own their own tractor may be eligible for Marten's Lease Purchase Program. MARTEN BUSINESS ACADEMY

An additional benefit Marten offers Contractors is the Marten Business Academy, or MBA. This workshop has been designed specifically to aid and educate Contractors in the finer points of efficiently managing a business. The program is supported by our Contractor Services department, who help guide new or experienced Contractors through the process of managing and maintaining a profitable business venture.
